Flame Redwood Slab Coffeetable
We had the fortune of finding some old growth redwood slabs in a barn near Rogers, AR last summer. The wood had been stored in the attic for over 30 years! Needless to say once we got it back to the shop and figured out what type of wood it was and how rare it is anymore to find we were overjoyed! We spent some time designing a coffeetable using the most beautiful of the slabs. We wanted to make sure the dimensions and proportions were just right to properly accent the top and not detract but add to the beauty of the wood. We used some more of the redwood flame burl as the skirt and then chose locally harvested red oak which was quarter-sawn for the legs. The color of the oak perfectly accompanies the slab top. It was sad to see this fine piece go to its new home but we were able to photograph it in the shop and have the pictures to share. We are moving on to working the other slabs into new pieces so stay tuned for more progress!
